Alex came to us in 2018 after being encouraged by his Careers Teacher at Maribyrnong College to meet with us and learn about how we could help him find a job.
He recently sent us an encouraging text message about his journey with us, so that we could share his story.
“I’ve been with WCIG for almost a year now, the staff here have been amazing since day one.”
While conducting weekly appointments and progressively working towards building Alex’s confidence and jobsearch skills through vocational and non-vocational training, we started to see some positive changes in Alex.
Along the way Alex completed a short course in Hospitality and a Certificate in Barista operations as well as Food Health & Safety.
“They’ve supported me through my journey and assisted me with getting part time work. Employment hasn’t been their only concern, they care about me as a person and assisted me with a hospitality course.”
After being referred by his Employment Consultant, Tania, Alex secured a part-time job at Lollipop’s Playland & Cafe Sunshine as a Children’s Party Host. With the support of Lollipop’s owner, Martin, and the WCIG team in Sunshine, Alex has thrived in his role for almost 12 months which is great milestone to celebrate!
Alex is now hoping to get his RSA Certificate and acknowledges the support of a number of people throughout his journey, including his employer and colleagues.
“My job at Lollipop’s Playland has been the most exciting, I didn’t have a lot of experience but they were patient and helped me boost my confidence. My boss, supervisor and co-workers all are kind and welcoming people”
