Nancy, a 21 year old single mum from Uganda, had struggled to find work since 2018.
Nancy heard about WCIG’s services through the Level Crossing Removal Authority’s “GROW” program. Nancy was not registered with any employment services provider and was keen to engage with assistance to build a career in Administration.
Nancy had some retail and customer service experience, but she suspected her limited work history, skill gaps and nervousness/lack of confidence in interviews were preventing her from landing a job. Nancy said that “it was difficult” for her to find stable employment in her preferred industry while also caring for her 20-month year old daughter.
Nancy and her Recruitment Specialist, Paul, worked together to address these barriers. Paul provided customised support and mentoring, preparing Nancy for specific employment opportunities. They also worked through pre-employment training and interview preparation.
Paul coordinated and assisted Nancy with various stages of an interview process with the Victorian Government’s Youth Employment Scheme (YES) through group training organisation AGA. Nancy was successful, and commenced an Administration Traineeship (Certificate III in Business Administration) role with Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions last year in 2019.
Nancy has enjoyed her “dream job” during her traineeship which she believes has assisted her to gain the necessary skillset and relevant administration experience to continue her career with the Victorian Government. Nancy recently completed her traineeship and Certificate III qualification and has been successful for a full-time role within the Victorian Government.
Paul and the Employment team continue to provide ongoing support to ensure Nancy succeeds in her career!
