Hot off the Press: Introducing Better Futures

Back to News

Exciting news! Changes are afoot to how we deliver out of home care services to young people.

The program formerly known as Western Springboard has transitioned to a streamlined program across Victoria called Better Futures, which is a new way of supporting young people to transition from care.

Better Futures workers engage early with young people in care and their support networks, including carers, case managers and care teams. A Better Futures worker provides secondary consultation to the care team, lending expertise to the transition planning process which may include assisting young people to plan for and meet their goals for living arrangements, education, employment, health and wellbeing and community connections.

Support from the Better Futures worker will gradually increase as the young person prepares to transition from care. A young person in Better Futures will have access to flexible funding to support their goals for independence.

WCIG will act as the sole Common Intake provider across the Western Melbourne and Brimbank Melton areas, which will then allocate caseloads to partner providers as appropriate.

While some of the finer aspects of the delivery of Better Futures are currently being established, we will provide more information in the coming weeks and into the new year, along with further communications regarding referral and service delivery.
