Sahil’s Story – Cadetship of Dreams!

12/11/2019

Sahil found himself unemployed back in 2015. His confidence began to decline after months of little success in finding a job. Supported by a single mum throughout childhood, Sahil understood the value of hard work and perseverance, but despite having worked in short term retail and customer service roles and volunteering, Sahil struggled with the pressure of job interviews.

Sahil came to east@work from another Job Active provider for more tailored assistance and mentorship from his Recruitment Specialist, Paul. With a firm goal to enter the Administration field, Paul and Sahil set about addressing confidence, presentation and interview skills through pre-employment workshops, role plays and coaching.

This preparation led to an interview for a place in the State Government Cadetship Program, which assists young people facing barriers to employment to secure two-year cadetships within the Victorian Public Service. Keen to make a good impression, Paul and Sahil redoubled their efforts, going through all the tips and newfound skills they had up their sleeves.

Paul and the east@work team coordinated and assisted Sahil with the various stages of interview process with the Cadetship Program. Finally, Sahil was successful and shortly after, he commenced his first Administration role with Victoria Police in Melbourne’s Docklands. Sahil is enjoying his “dream job” in which he’s thrilled to be learning new things every day.

The team provides ongoing support to ensure Sahil’s success in his role, and Sahil has just completed 6 months employment. Congratulations Sahil!
