WCIG has been proud to be involved with the ‘Enabling Women Leadership Program’ in Wyndham
Since early 2018, WCIG has been part of the Enabling Women Leadership Program run by Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV).
The program focuses on building leadership skills for women to take charge of their lives in a positive way and apply these skills to helping and supporting others. Enabling Women Leadership supports women in the Wyndham area who identify as living with disability to build confidence, knowledge of rights and self-advocacy, how to network and create relationships and also provides mentorship to participants.
WCIG is represented on the Reference Group, which contributes to steering the program’s progress and focuses, by Annalisa, our Community Engagement Specialist in the Wyndham area. Annalisa herself has lived experience of disability and significant experience in disability and community organisations. Annalisa found joining the group a fantastic experience of “great collaborative work and [sharing] great learnings from each other”.
Annalisa believes strongly in the program’s message and activities, providing tangible benefits to some of the most marginalised and isolated women in our community, describing the program as a “great way to engage women with a disability – especially those that experience isolation.”
In the coming months, 2018’s program will wrap up and the proud alumni look forward to a celebration and a ‘graduation’. We wish all the participants the best of luck with the program and cannot wait to see the group celebrate their amazing personal growth and achievements.
