WCIG Backing Victorian Businesses and Jobseekers

09/03/2022

Local businesses can access wage subsidies when hiring eligible staff thanks to the backing of Job Victoria and WCIG.

Located in Western Suburbs, Eastern Suburbs and Barwon (Geelong) regions, WCIG is partnering with Jobs Victoria to back people looking for work and businesses looking to hire staff by providing free employment services and supports, including employer wage subsidies of up to $20,000 per eligible employee.

There are more than 75 Jobs Victoria Partners working in communities across the state. They have contributed to supporting more than 25,000 Victorians into work since March 2020.

George Dimopoulos, Employment Group Manager, WCIG, said “WCIG is proud to be part of a 600 strong statewide force of Jobs Victoria advocates, mentors and counsellors backing jobseekers and businesses to take advantage of the personalised, free supports available.”

As well as wage subsidies, Jobs Victoria backs businesses with recruitment support and access to workers through the Jobs Victoria online hub. It also backs Victorians looking for work through personalised career counselling, mentoring and access to job opportunities. Jobs Victoria services include:

Jobs Victoria Mentors support people to become job ready, find a job that suits them and support them in the first six months of their job. They also work with employers to connect them with local jobseekers.

Jobs Victoria Advocates connect people with services that can support them in their job search such as support with resume and interview preparation, education and training.

Jobs Victoria Career Counsellors provide guidance to those looking for work or a career change.

Career counsellors help people understand their career options and goals and give them the tools to explore different interests, identify transferable skills and create a pathway f or change.

The Victorian Government’s $619 million investment in Jobs Victoria is connecting people looking for work with employers who need staff.

The $250 million Jobs Victoria Fund is also supporting businesses with wage subsidies and large
scale employment programs.

Employers and people looking for work can register on the Jobs Victoria Online Hub. Information on other free employment support services is available at the website or call the Jobs Victoria hotline on 1300 208 575. Alternatively, they can contact Ruth Carr, JVES Manager, WCIG, directly by email or calling 0423 236 754.
